The Computer Science Department operates has a variety of computing resources, including a Linux cluster, a lab of Linux workstations, and a Sun enterprise-level server. The systems are available to Computer Science students, faculty and staff for both course assignments and research work. A partial list of software can be found here: Available User Software and current configurations are as follows:
Linux Cluster

- 4 1u cluster units: csx0, csx1, csx2, csx3
- 1 2u server unit, serving files, authentication and configuration to all departmental Linux systems
- dual-core dual-CPU AMD64 with 4G RAM and gigabit ethernet in each unit
- connected to campus via gigabit switch and firewall at 100 Mbps (campus limit)

Sun Tape Backup System

24 200GB tapes; capable of tending itself with a 500 mb/min data transfer capability. It is used every night to backup the entire CSa server and completes the task in approximately 3 hours. |
The department also operates three labs, one in MSCS 222, one in MSCS 206 and one in MSCS 214. The MSCS 222 lab contains 19 Linux workstations and is available for all Computer Science students with an emphasis for our graduate students. The MSCS 206 and MSCS 214 lab are reserved for funded research projects. These labs are available upon key request from Beau Turner in MSCS 219 with ID supplied and student is verified to be taking CS courses.
All CS Department systems are accessible through OSU's campus data network, from the CIS labs located around campus, and via SSH from off campus. Windows users are advised to obtain the free software PuTTY for this use.
